Women’s CHAI Project was founded in 2011 on a voluntary basis by Najma Khalid MBE over a cup of chai/tea and inspired by her lived experience of Domestic Abuse. CHAI stands for Care, Help and Inspire and that is what they aspire to do. The Women’s CHAI Project cares about its members and the community, helping and inspiring them to make a difference. The aim of the project is to empower and develop women and their families. It also raise’s awareness of wellbeing and ensures mothers are better equipped to make a difference to their children, themselves, family and the community. There are 10 different weekly CHAI groups (8 in Oldham, 1 in Rochdale and 1 in Old Trafford) there are also 3 physical activity groups a week including self-defense classes, Bollycise, and a walking group, all reaching out to over 200 disadvantaged women a week from diverse communities mainly BME. The CHAl project also runs projects in partnership with organisations across Greater Manchester.
The CHAI Project runs a variety of activities from arts and crafts for wellbeing, digital skills, tackling health inequalities, community safeguarding, theatre to seminars with Doctors etc, learning and raising key awareness. The project is based in Greater Manchester and reaches out to women from all communities.The CHAI Project has worked locally, nationally and Internationally over the years reaching out to thousands.
